27 - Strasburg Burns Bolivar 17-5 (2-26-27)






DOVER - Strasburg and Sugarcreek-Shanesville high schools were fighting at theAmerican Legion gymnasium Saturday afternoon to determine which of the two teams will play the final game of the County Class B tournament tonight against either Gnadenhutten or Baltic high school.  Strasburg defeated Bolivar high school in the final morning game of the 2nd round 17-5, wining their 2nd game  of the tourney.  They defeated Dundee high school 21-17 Friday night.  Gnadenhutten defeated Port Washington Saturday morning, while Baltic defeated New Cumberland.  Those two teams will play in the semi-final late this afternoon.  Sugarcreek won  its right to play Strasburg in the 1st game this morning by overwhelmingly defeating Tuscarawas 61-7.

Results of the tourney games played so far are as follows:  Strasburg 21, Dundee 17; Bolivar 23, Mineral City 5; Gnadenhutten 28, Port Washington 21; Baltic 41, New Cumberland 19; Sugarcreek 61, Tuscarawas 7 and Strasburg 17,  Bolivar 5.

Strasburg Tigers (2-0) (9-3) played a fine game against the Bolivar Cardinals (1-1) (7-5) and held the Cardinal cagemen to a lone field goal.  Three of Bolivar's 5 points were scored from the foul line.  Strasburg led Bolivar at the end of the 1st quarter 4-0 and forged into an 11-3 lead at the halftime.  They held Bolivar scoreless again in the 3rd period and continued their running score to 15.  Both teams scored 2 points in the last quarter.  Senior forward Leland Huth was the outstanding player on lthe Strasburg floor combination  with 3 field goals and 2 foul shots for 8 points.  Junior forward Orval Deems swished a field goal and a foul shot, while Senior guard Walter Neidenthal picked up 3 foul shots for 3 points each.  Junior center Paul Sundheimer had 2 points and Junior guard Clyde Denzer had 1 point to round out the scoring for Strasburg.  The Bolivar Cardinals were led by forward John Reiger and guard Zutavern with 2 points each.  Guard Fisher followed with 1 point.
