37 - Stone Creek Rally Upsets Mineral City 27-25 (2-19-37)









DOVER - Refusing to accept defeat, Head Coach James C. Wilson directed the Stone Creek Panthers (1-0) (4-7), who claimed the Cellar Champhionship in League play, defeated the 9th Place Mineral City Tigers (0-1) (7-17) in somewhat of an upset.

The game was played on even terms throughout and the Panthers only sealed their victory in the final period.  The Tigers, led by 1st year Head Coach Ludwig Birk, were leading 4-2, 12-10 and 19-18 at the quarter ends, but Stone Creek rallied to forge ahead 22-19 early in the final chukker.  Once in front the Panthers held firmly to their advantage until the final gun.

Forward Walter Bartolovich led both teams with a total of 12 points (5 field goals and 2 free throws), while forward Bob Markham and center Lester Martin tied with 7 points each (3 field goals and a free throw and 2 field goals and 3 free throws) for Mineral City.
