33 - Tournament Update

DOVER - A packed hall, filled with the roar of enthusiastic fans last night, greeted the opening of the Annual Tuscarawas County Class B Basketball Tournament which will crown a county school system champion and qualify 3 teams for the Eastern Ohio Sectional Tournament at Legion Hall next week.

RESULTS OF THE 1ST ROUND

Sugarcreek-Shanesville Pirates 60 - Stone Creek Panthers 19
Dundee Bulldogs 38 - Tuscarawas Broncos 18
Gnadenhutten Indians 49 - New Cumberland 27
Baltic Eagles 32 - Midvale Blue Devils 27

With the tournament machinery working smoothly, the games were played almost on the dot as scheduled and without an upset in the 1st night's play.  Four more games are scheduled for tonight with semi-finals tomorrow afternoon and finals tomorrow night.

SCHEDULED GAMES

Bolivar Cardinals - Mineral City Tigers
Port Washington Purple Riders - Strasburg Tigers
Sugarcreek-Shanesville Pirates - Dundee Bulldogs
Gnadenhutten Indians - Baltic Eagles

Sugarcreek-Shanesville, presenting a well-balanced combination and showing off to good advantage in the lop-sided victory over Stone Creek, youngest member of the county league, continues to be the heavy favorite of the lower bracket to reach the finals.  Strasburg, Champion of the League, plays its 1st game tonight and is the favorite to conquer the upper bracket to reach the final.  To do so it must defeat Port Washington and the winner of the Bolivar-Mineral City game.
