DOVER - As a result of Strasburg's smashing 79-46 victory over the Port Washington Purple Riders and the Midvale Blue Devils' shaky 48-44 decision over the courageous Dundee Bulldogs in the semi-finals of the Tuscarawas County tournament at Memorial Hall Wednesday night, the stage was all set for the final battle Saturday night between the Strasburg Tigers and Midvale, but the Blue Devils were forced to come from behind for the 2nd consecutive time to win, while Head Coach Emmet Riley's Tigers were more invincible than ever in crushing Head Coach Bray Toot's highly-regarded Purple Riders before a capacity crowd of 1,420 fans.
The Sugarcreek-Shanesville Pirates earned the right to meet Port Washington in the Consolation Division semi-finals tonight by edging the Mineral City Tigers 39-35, while the Gnadenhutten Indians topped the Stone Creek Golden Panthers 61-46 and will clash with Dundee in the other Consolation tilt.
The Gnadenhutten Indians (2-1) (12-14) (41-32) overpowered the Stone Creek Golden Panthers (1-2) (3-19) (12-30) at Memorial Hall on Wednesday night 61-46 without much trouble. The Strasburg Tigers managed to control Junior forward Jerry Virtue and held him to just 4 points in a 69-29 Tigers victory in the Panthers' last contest. But, Virtue came right back tossing 21 points through the nets to lead his team in their latest win.
The Indians raced to an 11-7 first period advantage against the Golden Panthers.
