48 - Dundee Checks Gnadenhutten 52-45 (2-26-48)

1st-Year Head Coach of the 1948 Gnadenhutten Indians Raymond Blickensderfer led his team to a record of 12-15 this year including a 2-2 mark in the Tuscarawas County Class B Basketball Tournament in which the Indians beat the Stone Creek Panthers 61-46 and upset the Tuscarawas Broncos 59-51.  Blickensderfer graduated from Ohio University with a B.S. in Education.  He is currently teaching Science, History and Economics at the school.

DOVER - Dundee's Bulldogs and Sugarcreek-Shanesville's Pirates toppled the Gnadenhutten Indians and Port Washington Purple Riders Thursday night in the Consolation Division semi-finals of the Tuscarawas County Class B Basketball Tournament before a small crowd of only 597 fans and thereby earned the right to meet in the Consolation finals Saturday night in the preliminary to the Strasburg Tigers-Midvale Blue Devils Championship tilt.

It was again the sharp-shooting of 5-10 Senior guard Paul Kate, 6-0 Senior center Bob Gardner and Sophomore forward Stan Immel that sparked the Dundee Bulldogs (2-1) (13-10) (21-37) and gave 1st-Year Head Coach Fritz Jacobs' quintet  an opportunity to become the 3rd county team in the Sectional Tournament if they can oust Sugarcreek-Shanesville Saturday night.

The Gnadenhutten Indians (2-2) (12-15) (41-33) jumped into a 12-10 first quarter lead over Dundee on the basis of sharp-shooting by Junior forward Dick Frey, 6-0 Junior forward Jim Lindon and 6-0 Junior guard Gene Montague whose point totals topped the 8 markers Kate garnered for the Bulldogs in this period.

Immel and Gardner paced the Bulldogs in the 2nd canto, but Frey and Montague kept Gnaden in the lead by a slim 23-22 margin at halftime.  Immel meshed 3 field goals in the 2nd quarter and Gardner netted 2, but this was more than matched by Frey and Montague.  With Kate pouring points through the nets on dribble-in shots and Gardner ringing the bell from side court, the Bulldogs pulled into a 33-29 third stanza lead.

Although the Indians started a 4th quarter rally, the accuracy of Kate and Gardner again in the last period kept the Bulldogs out in front all the way.  Montague's 3 doubledeckers and Lindon's trio of action shots sparked the Indian rally, but Kate and Gardner offset this offensive with 8 and 6 points, respectively.

Kate led both teams in scoring with 20 points, while Montague was close behind with 19 for Gnadenhutten.  Gardner followed up Kate with 16 points and Immel followed Garnder with 10.  Lindon followed up Montague with another 10 points.

Saturday's Consolation Division final will get under way at 7:30PM with the Championship game scheduled for 8:30PM.
