31 - Lay Your Bets, Gentlemen







DOVER - The big tournament starts tomorrow afternoon.  Ten Class B basketball teams of the county school system will swing into action at Legion Hall at 2PM in the 1931 fight for county honors and The Daily Reporter Trophy.  The largest crowd ever to attend the annual meeting of the 10 schools is anticipated and all arrangements for its comfort and entertainment have been completed.  There will be 9 high school games in lthe play-offs.  Coaches, teams, schools and school officials have spent an entire basketball season working up to the tournament of this weekend.  The training of all teams has been done with an eye on one ultimate goal...The Reporter trophy and county honors.

Action such as county fans have been waiting all season for, will begin with the initial contest tomorrow when the Bolivar Cardinals and the Mineral City Tigers open the annual competition.  After their game, The Midvale Blue Devils will be pitted against the Port Washington Purple Riders combine.  The Gnadenhutten Indians meet the Tuscarawas Broncos in the 3rd game of the 1st afternoon.  The latter game is the 1st in the upper bracket.  The Strasburg Tigers and the Sugarcreek-Shanesville Pirates, winner and runner-up respectively in the County League race, will square off at 7PM on Friday in the headliner of the early rounds.  They will be followed to the floor by the Baltic Eagles and the Dundee Bulldogs.  The last game Friday night will be between the winners of the Bolivar-Mineral City and the Midvale-Port Washington games.

Semi-finals are scheduled to begin at 2PM Saturday with the 2nd game at 3PM.  Referee Earl Gross will blow his whistle again at 8:30PM and set under way the climax of the meet...final fight for the right to represent the county system in the Sectional meet which will be held at Legion Hall on March 6-7.  Both the winner and the runner up are eligible.  Your favorite will be there.  Lay your bets!
