35 - Bolivar Collapes 38-36 Against New Matamoras (3-14-35)

DENNISON - Bolivar appeared stale, while New Matamoras took advantage.  Appearing a bit over-trained and stale and nothing like the ball club that fought its way to a 3-way tie for the Tuscarawas County League Basketball Championship and finished as runer-up in the Tuscarawas County Tournament, the Bolivar Cardinals (5-2) were in trouble throughout its game with the New Matamoras Cougars.  Of the entire club only Junior center Paul Class of the Cardinals seemed to be himself.

After grabbing a 9-2 lead in the opening minutes, the Cardinals slipped up and let forward Payton and guard Cunningham, Cougar tossers, have 4 sucker shots from the old "pot-hanging" position.  Payton made it 5 as the 2nd period opened and put his team into a 13-13 tie with Bolivar.  When halftime rolled around, New Matamoras had rolled into a 23-17 lead with most of the honors going to Payton who experienced little difficulty in getting between his guard and the basket.  The southern team led 33-27 at the close of the 3rd period.  The Cardinals pulled up in the final period, but was unable to completely overtake the fast breaking Cougars.

New Matamoras' Payton was high scorer and took game honors with 17 points (8 field goals and a free throw).  Paul Class had 14 points (6 field goals and 2 free throws) and Ward Kreis picked up 12 points (5 field goals and 2 free tosses) for Bolivar.
