DOVER - Clicking in every department of the game, the Bolivar Cardinals (4-1) defeated the Philo Electrics of Muskingum County by a score of 41-25 in another wild contest at the Southestern Ohio North Sectional Class B Basketball Tournament last night. Led by 6-3 Junior center Paul Class and forward Ward Kreis, the Cardinals outclassed the scrappy and speedy Electrics. Bolivar opened a scoring onslaught in the first 6 minutes and before Philo found the basket had tallied 10 points. That 1st quarter ended at 12-3 Cardinals. In the 2nd quarter, the Electrics picked up speed, but still lost ground 23-10 at the half. In the 3rd quarter it looked like the game would be closer than Bolivar expected as Philo closed within 7 points 30-23. In the 4th and final quarter, the Electrics hit the skids and could only manage 2 more markers, while the Cardinals sank 11 points, dumping in 5 field goals in rapid succession and swished a free throw. Guard Harold Turvey and Kreis led the last minute rush for points.
Guard Hodgson, center Charles and forward Huntsman, all of Philo, were ejected from the game in the last quarter. The Cardinals, despite a spell of recklessness in the 3rd period, dumped in 16 field goals as compared with the Electrics ten. Class gained contest honors with 15 points (6 field goals and 3 free throws), while Kreis hit for 13 points (5 field goals and 3 free throws) for the Cardinals. No Philo players hit double figures, but Hodgson came close with 9 points (4 field goals and 1 free toss) to lead the team cause.
