35 - Bolivar Drops Midvale In Thriller 32-28 (2-23-35)

DOVER - Most of the thrills of the evening's games were provided by the Bolivar Cardinals (2-0) (14-11) and the Midvale Blue Devils (1-1) (11-8) in their regular contest which resulted in a 32-28 victory for the Cardinals and a trip to the Consolation court.  Nip and tuck most of the way, Bolivar was leading only 30-28 with but one minute to play.  Midvale tried desperately to force the game into overtime, but the Junior Cardinal center 6-3 Paul Class, clinched the game by scoring a basket on a follow-up of a missed foul shot.  Midvale held the lead in the 1st quarter 6-5, but by the end of the 1st half Bolivar had gain the lead by a score of 14-12.  The Cardinals were still leading at the end of the 3rd quarter 23-20.  The Blue Devils put up a fight adding 8 points in the final stanza, but Bolivar stuff in another 9 points to pull out the win.

The Blue Devils were without the services of guard Delbert Keeffer, centers Jack Walker and Laird Hawkins who were out of the game on personal fouls in those last few crucial seconds.  Guard Kermit Lebold scored 12 points in the game (2 field goals and 8 free throws), while his teammate Class tallied 9 points (4 field goals and 1 free throw).  For the equally tough Midvale team, Frank Baumholtz was the leading scorer with 10 points (4 field goals and 2 free tosses).
