35 - Mineral City Tops Gnaden 22-17 (2-23-35)









DOVER - The Mineral City Tigers (1-1) (6-13) eliminated the Gnadenhutten Indians (0-2) (14-13) from the Consolation rounds by a score of 22-17 after a heated contest during which the Tigers had things their own way most of the time.  Only in the 3rd quarter did the Indians threaten Mineral City's lead by holding the latter scoreless and at the same time garnering 7 points.  The score at the end of the 3rd quarter stood at 15-12.  But, the Tigers led by Senior forward Dick Wilson, guard Dean Ackerman and forward Louis Smitley scored 7 points in the last stanza, while Gnaden scored only 1 free throw.  The Tigers opened the 1st quarter at 9-4 and showed 15-5 at halftime.

Mineral City was led in scoring by Wilson who hit for 8 points (3 field goals and 2 free throws), while his teammate Smiley had 6 points (3 field goals).  Forward Bill Hamilton was high for Gnaden with 6 points (2 field goals and 2 free throws).
