35 - Strasburg Has Trouble Taking Out Gnaden 19-15 (2-23-35)

DOVER - Fifth-year Head Coach Roy M. Roby's Strasburg Tigers (1-0) (30-5), were troubled to no end by an unusually scrappy 1st year Head Coach Paul Plummer led Gnadenhutten Indians (0-1) (14-12) which looked very little like defending champions as they nosed out the Indians 19-15 to win their 1st tournament contest on Saturday afternoon.  The Tigers just couldn't get going and a stubborn Indian defense didn't help matters.  Strasburg managed to eke out a 5-point lead in the 2nd period and then spent the entire 2nd half protecting it.  The teams were tied 4-4 at the close of the 1st quarter and then the Tigers led 10-5 and 12-7 at the close of the next two.

Seniors forward Bill "Doodle" Haas and guard Adrian "Fuzz" Miller, were the high scorers for Strasburg with 6 points each (both had 3 field goals).  They carried the brunt of the Tigers' battle both offensively and defensively.  Gnaden was led by guard Harold Kohl who stood out for the Indians and was high scorer in the game with 9 points (4 field goals and 1 free throw).
