25 - Sugarcreek Wins Girls Exhibition Game Prior to Boys Championship Game 12-1 (2-28-25)

SUGARCREEK - Just before the boys championship game, the girls from the Tuscarawas County Girls Basketball League took to the floor for an exhibition game.  The Sugarcreek-Shanesville Girls (8-2) defeated the Tuscarawas Girls (6-4) 12-1.  The win for Sugarcreek over Tuscarawas was the  2nd time in as many weeks in a preliminary to the girls championship go.  Tuscarawas substituted for the Dundee Girls (6-2) who were forced to decline an invitation inasmuch as they had what was considered to be their hardest game of the season Saturday night.  The Sugarcreek team had little trouble with the visitors shutting them out without a field goal.  Tuscarawas' only point was a free throw by Center Elizabeth Reichman.  Thelma Schott, Sugarcreek's star center scored 5 times from the floor, while left forward Florence Wingeler added 2 free throws for the total of 12.  The half ended 5-1 with the Tusky girls fast weakening.

Although the girls championship of the county league has been decided and Sugarcreek-Shanesville has a silver trophy to exhibit for their prowess on the basketball court, there are still 6 scheduled games to be played in the county league.  Two of these contests will probably not be played, as they are scheduled with Gnadenhutten, the team that was unable to enter the boys tournament because of an epidemic in that neighborhood.
