24 - Strasburg Nips Sugarcreek-Shanesville 24-20 (2-23-24)

DOVER - Three games of the 2nd Annual Tuscarawas County Basketball Tournament were played Saturday morning and the only upset in the predictions came when the Gnadenhutten Indians soundly trounced the Newcomerstown Trojans 20-9. The Dennison Railroaders had little difficulty in disposing of the Mineral City Tigers 13-5.  The Strasburg Tigers (1-0) (4-0) nipped the Sugarcreek-Shanesville Pirates (0-1) in the closest and by far the best game of the morning.  Myers at right forward for Sugarcreek dumped thru 14 points in the contest with Strasburg, thereby winning the individual scoring honors of the morning.  George Mizer, his runningmate, played a pretty brand of ball also.  Randall Weber of Strasburg looked as good as any guard on the floor.  Strasburg led at the half 13-11 and held the lead during the 2nd half; however,  never by very much.  This was the 1st Tuscarawas County Basketball Tournament for the Pirates, who had to drop out in 1923 due to illnesses on the team.
