57 - The 35th Annual Tuscarawas County Class B Basketball Tournament






The Tuscarawas Valley (TV) Trojans Basketball Team for 1957.  This is the 1st year for this new school and basketball team which was a consolidation of Mineral City, Bolivar and Zoar High Schools.  The Trojans have looked very impressive winning 4th place in the League.  The 1st tournament game for TV will be on Thursday night at 9:00 when they meet the energized Port Washington Purple Riders.  FRONT:  Sonny Hennis - Wayne Ruof (MCT) - Ken Haueter (BC) - Ben Price (MCT) - Dave Wolf (BC) - Ray McFeeders (BC) and Dick Shew (Manager).  BACK:  Head Coach Ray (Sucker) Low (BC) - John Geers (BC) - Ken Sickles - Roy Buchanan (MCT) - Gary Archinal - Jerry Pullins - Bob Robertson (MCT) - and Paul Geib (BC) (Manager)



DOVER - Tournament time will get under way in the area as 1st round action is slated for the 35th Annual Tuscarawas County Class A (this season Class B became Class A and Class A became Class AA) Basketball Tournament at Dover's Memorial Hall tonight.  Two games are booked for tonight of the event which will see 7 evenings of action in the double elimination tournament.  At 7:30, the Midvale Blue Devils battle the Tuscarawas Broncos, while in the nightcap at 9.00, the Dundee Bulldogs takes on the Port Washington Purple Riders.

County teams will skip Tuesday night and then resume play on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday night which will eventually decide semi-finalists in both the Championship and Consolation Division brackets.  On Wednesday the Strasburg Terrific Tigers meet the Baltic Eagles at 7:45 and the Sugarcreek-Shanesville Pirates clash with the Gnadenhutten Indians at 9:00.  In the Consolation Division contest the loser of the Midvale-Tusky game squares off with the loser of the Dundee-Port Washington tussle at 6:30 to kickoff the evening's action.

Thursday night 2 Championship and one Consolation Division fracas will provide the thrills.  The Stone Creek Golden Panthers with the winner of the Midvale-Tuscarawas Valley Trojans takes on the Dundee-Port Washington winner at 9:00.  In the Consolation Division game at 6:30 the losers of the Baltic-Strasburg and Sugarcreek-Shanesville-Gnaden games kickoff action.

Saturday night's 2 Consolation games conclude the 1st week and 4 nights of action in the tournament.  Next week after 2 games each on Thursday, Friday and Saturday night the Champions will be decided.
