DOVER - The Baltic Eagles (3-1) (18-6) (34-49), who for a time in the opening period of another Consolation Division contest seemed destined to be shoved out of the tournament by a fast-breaking attack thrown up by the Tuscarawas Broncos (1-2) (13-7) (46-42), regrouped their forces and gave Tusky the boot with a stretch drive that won out over the Broncos' lead. The Riders, with Senior Rich Davis and Senior Terry Deems clicking with precision, jumped off to a 20-12 first-quarter lead and appeared on the way to a convincing victory. Baltic bounced back in the 2nd frame as Senior Fritz Syler potted 8 points and Errol Jocobs, who went scoreless through the 1st quarter, chimed in with 2 baskets led the attack to pull the Eagles within 2 points before Tusky shot ashead by six 34-28 at the half time intermission. Tusky's reprieve was short-lived; however, as Baltic came back strong in the 3rd stanza and after deadlocking the count at 42-42 midway in the period, zipped to a 50-42 lead with Junior Jim Uher, 6-3 Senior Errol Jacobs and Junior George Regula hitting the nets.
Davis drove in close for a basket just before the buzzer sounded to make the score 50-44 and the "Mighty Midget" of Tusky continued to drive in the early stages of the final canto as he led the Broncos to a 53-50 advantage before the Eagles could hit the nets. Syler, who had been benched in the 3rd period after being tagged with his 4th personal foul, returned to the Flyers lineup at this point and led the fight to bring out the eventual triumph.
;The Blue and White forward pushed through a basket to narrow the deficit to one point, but Sophomore Ed Hill, Deems and Davis combined to carry Tuscarawas to what appeared to be a safe lead 63-54, with only 3 minutes left to play. The Orange and Black caught fire at this point and began chipping the margin down. The score was 66-58 with little more than a minute left when Jacobs connected from the corner. Syler followed with one of 2 free throws and then dropped in a push shot to narrow the margin to 66-63.
Senior Jim Wallace cashed in on one of 2 free throw shots to make it 66-64 at the 45 second mark and Syler missed 2 free throws with 35 seconds left and Regula accounted for another free throw at the 30-second mark. Hill shot Tusky back ahead by 2 points 67-65 with one of 2 foul shots and with less than 10 seconds left to play, Wallace wiggled loose from a tangle up under the Baltic basket and swished the tying field goal. Davis of the Broncos then fired a long shot just before the buzzer sounded and as the claxton was blasting through the arena, the ball hit the rim, bounced high in the air and back on the rim and away.
The Eagles rushed to a 73-67 lead in the overtime before the Riders could score as the Flyers played control ball with Tuscarawas desperately trying to regain the sphere. Syler was tops for Baltic with 23 pointys and Wallace had 20, while the Tusky "Mutt and Jeff" combination of Deems and Davis had 25 and 21 points.
Baltic and Tuscarawas did not play each other during the season.
