52 - Dundee Rocks Strasburg 52-48 (2-12-52)

Shown here is a photo snapped by The Daily Reporter Photographer, Ralph McKee, on the 1st night depicting the 2nd game of the Tuscarawas County Class B Basketball Tournament festival at Memorial Hall.  The Strasburg Tigers' Max Bonifant (77) apparently is the only cager in position to pounce on a free ball.  The Dundee Bulldogs' players shown are Merlyn Immel (left), Loris Hostetler (45) and Curt Beamer (55).  The Tigers' Jerry Haswell is shown in the left background, while his teammate, Jerry Von Kaenal (20), is shown going down with his back to the camera.

DOVER - Senior forward Louis Hostetler was benched for infraction of training rules and the Dundee Bulldogs (1-0) (16-2) (27-43) had to muster a giant rally in the final quarter to turn back the Strasburg Tigers (0-1) (8-13) (81-21) by a score of 52-48.

Forth-Year Head Coach Don Martin's chargers out-classed the Bulldogs in the very 1st quarter and were leading 12-9 by the end of the period's close.  But, the Tigers had fallen behind 31-20 at intermission due to a handful of bad passes coupled with a sudden burst by Dundee 31-20.  It was this frame which spelled defeat for the Tigers.

In the 3rd stanza, The Bengals closed in on the Bulldogs scoring 15 points and holding the Dogs to just 5 points.  Dundee came back in the 4th canto scoring 16 points to Strasburg's 13 markers to ice the victory in the closing seconds.

Senior forward Loris Hostetler, who connected for 21 markers to share scoring honors for the night with Sophomore forward Max Miller (294) of the Sugarcreek-Shanesville Pirates in game one, was the Bulldogs' top point maker.  Loris's teammate, Senior guard Curt Beamer dropped in 10 points as well.  Freshman forward Jerry Haswell scored 15 points as Senior center Bill Von Kaenel and Junior forward Jim Weinmann scored 10 points each for the losers.
