DOVER - The Tuscarawas Broncos (3-1) (19-5) (32-29) won the 1947 Tuscarawas County Class B Sectional Division Basketball Tournament for the last 3 years in a row outlasting the Bolivar Cardinals (3-2) (16-7) (39-32) 58-53 at Memorial Hall last night.  The Broncos also won their only game against the Cardinals during the season 31-30.

In the 1st quarter, both teams played nip-and-tuck basketball with Tusky leading 15-14 when the period ended.  By intermission after the 2nd stanza, Tuscarawas increased their lead by 2 points 28-26.  The 3rd period showed the Broncos increasing their lead by 11 points going into the last quarter 49-38 as Bolivar began to fade.  The Red Birds outscored Tusky 15 to 9, but couldn't make up the 11-point spread.

The lead changed hands 8 times and the score was tied at 2-2, 7-7 and 9-9 in the 1st half before Tuscarawas gained its 2-point halftime margin.  Center Loyal Bishop and guard Junior Lundenberger exchanged action shots at the opening of the 3rd period and then the Broncos scored 8 straight points and maintained a comfortable lead until  less than 4 minutes remained.  Then they began to freeze the ball and ice the contest.

Tusky's Bishop, Senior forward Andy Steve and Senior forward Dale McDonald amassed 15, 14 and 13 points, respectively.  Center Lee Lundenberger paced Bolivar with 16 points and gathered up game honors, while forward Junior Murray caged 13 and guard Dick Mase 11.  The latter 2 went out on personals in the 4th quarter when the Broncos lost Steve.
