47 - Bolivar Eliminates Baltic 51-46 (2-18-47)









DOVER - The Bolivar Cardinals (2-1) (15-6) (38-31) downed the Baltic Eagles (1-2) (8-12) (24-36) in the curtain raiser 51-46 last night at Memorial Hall in a Consolation Division game.  The Cardinals did not gain a comfortable edge over the Eagles until the final quarter.  The Red Birds had also beaten Baltic 51-44 during the regular season.

The Eagles were in command 13-12 when the 1st quarter ended, but Bolivar was in front 25-23 at intermission.  In the 3rd quarter the Cardinals outscored Baltic 14 to 10 for a 6-point lead going into the last quarter.  The Eagles outscored the Red Birds in the 4th quarter, but couldn't dent the 6-point lead.

The score was deadlocked at 2-2, 4-4, 13-13, 23-23 and 25-25 and the lead changed hands 8 times before Bolivar went ahead 29-25 early in the 3rd period and stayed in front the rest of the way.  The Cardinals' 2 Juniors Lee Lundenberger and Junior Murray, paced the victory with 14 and 13 points, respectively, while Senior center Marvin Deitz and Junior guard Dean Gerber led Baltic with 16 and 13 points.
