47 - Port Rips Mineral City 63-47 (2-13-47)

DOVER - The Port Washington Purple Riders (2-0) (11-6) (11-32) overwhelmed the Mineral City Tigers (0-1) (4-13) (9-35) 63-47 last night at Memorial Hall.  It was the 2nd straight victory in the tournament and the 1st time a Port Washington quintet had posted 2 victories in the annual tournament.  During the season, the Purple Riders and Tigers clashed and ended in a 57-15 victory for Port Washington.

Port had only a 3-point lead in the 1st quarter of play.  But in the 2nd period, the Riders picked up another 21 points, while the Tigers hit the baskets for 15 points and the 3-point lead expanded to a 9-point lead at 32-23.  Port Washington hit the hoops for another 20 points icing the game in the 3rd stanza and held Mineral City to just 7 points and the point spread rose to a 22-point lead, 52-30.  The reserves for both teams hit the court in the 4th quarter with the Tigers unable to make any kind of traction.

Showing improvement in the passing department, the Riders were sparked by Junior forward Harold Gallion, who gathered 9 field goals and 2 free tosses for 20 points and game honors.  Junior guard Jack Davis and Junior center Harold Huston followed up with 14 and 13, respectively, for Head Coach Bray Toot's victors. Senior guard Fred Wigfield and Sophomore forward Dan Lechner paced Mineral City with 11 markers each.
