42 - Bolivar Is Back With 51-33 Jolt Over Stone Creek (2-26-42)









Bolivar Cardinals star player Junior Forward Warren Klink won game honors leading his team to a thumping of the Stone Creek Golden Panthers 51-33 by dropping in 21 points.  Klink has gathered 43 points in tournament play this year and now has an average of 14.3 points per game.  He has accumulated 109 points in tourney play since his sensational Freshman year.


DOVER - With a packed house looking on, the Gnadenhutten Indians and the Tuscarawas Broncos won their way into the Sectional Tournament here next week and moved a step nearer the County Championship by taking winning games in the fast waning County Class B Tournament at Memorial Hall here last night.

The Indians rated as tournament favorties, were pushed to the wall by the Dundee Bulldogs and won 44-29 only after coming from behind to stage an emotional 17-point rally in the final 6 minutes of the game.  The Broncos had it comparatively easy sailing to a win over the Strasburg Tigers 41-27 in the other semi-final.

Consolation contests saw the Sugarcreek-Shanesville Pirates remain in the running by eliminating the Baltic Eagles 38-18, led by guard Bill Mast who scored 10 points, leading the Eagles at all stages and the Bolivar Cardinals, upset by Tuscarawas last Saturday night, regained their stride to eliminate the Stone Creek Golden Panthers 51-33.

The Bolivar Cardinals (2-1) (29-23), with Junior forward Warren Klink getting 21 points, swept over the Stone Creek Golden Panthers (2-2) (9-19) in their Consolation Division contest after leading by only 22-18 at halftime.  In the 1st quarter the Cardinal scoring machine appeared amassing 14 points as well as the Bolivar defense who held the Panthers to just 3 points.  In the 2nd period, the Golden Panthers scoring picked up when they poured in 15 points to the Red Bird's 8 points.  The 3rd period matched the 1st stanza with Bolivar hitting 12 points and the Cardinal defense kicked in again holding Stone Creek to just 1 point...Bolivar 34-19.  Both teams played evenly during the 4th and final quarter with the Cardinals hitting 17 points to Stone Creek's 14 markers as the Golden Panthers ended their season.

Forward Calvin Jones followed up Bolivar's Klink with 14 points in their win.  For Stone Creek, high scoring forward Bill Ridenour picked up 17 points in leading his team in a losing cause.  Forward Ralph Kilchenmann followed with 9 and center K. Buehler followed that with another 7 points.  Ridenour, had 24 points in his 1st game and missed the next 2 Panther games due to catching the measles and only returned to the lineup last night.

John Gabor of Alliance and Earl Schreiber of Canton refereed.
