DOVER - The Midvale Blue Devils (1-0) (11-8) (38-18) ripped the Mineral City Tigers (0-1) (1-16) (9-31) 59-25 in the 1st game of the 23rd Annual Tuscarawas County Class B Basketball Tournament last night. The Blue Devils The reserves hit the court early in the 2nd quarter and 9 of 10 players showed up in the scoring column when the clock ran its course.
Second-Year Head Coach Travis White's Midvale cagers leaped to a 20-4 lead in the very 1st quarter. In the 2nd period the Blue Devils began inserting the 2nd string and Midvale scored but 4 points, while Mineral City made an attempt to get back in the game by hitting 12 points in the same quarter...Midvale 24-16. After the half the regular Blue Devils returned dropping in 25 points and shutting down the Tigers offense who managed another 5 points...Midvale 49-21. Coach White emptied the bench scoring 10 points, while Mineral City never really got started again.
Junior forward Dave Stevenson lead Midvale with 15 points, while his teammates Seniors forward Sam Booth and center Gene Hawkins picked up 13 and 12 points, respectively. Center Gil Fiddler scored 12 points and forward Junior Kreiger followed up with 11 points for Mineral City.
