DOVER - In the opening game on Thursday night, the Sugarcreek-Shanesville Pirates (1-0) (42-25) took a 5-0 advantage before the Mineral City Tigers (0-1) (9-33) (6-13) were able to rack up their 1st point and the Pirates went on to lead at the quarter end 7-1.  The Pirates moved out in front 16-3 in the 2nd period, but the Tigers put up a good scrap on 4 successive field goals to trail just 16-11.

The 2nd half found Sugarcreek-Shanesville having little trouble with the Mineral City quintet as they took charge of a 35-15 lead as the team moved into the 4th and final frame.  Although the Tigers outscored the Pirates 10 to 9 in the last quarter, Sugarcreek-Shanesville had all but locked up this contest at the end of the 3rd stanza.

Guard Bill Weiss paced the Pirates with 15 points, thus winning game honors, while center Doran Immel and forward Hamsher added 13 and 10 markers, respectively.  Junior guard Fred Wigfield was best for the losers with 9 tallies.

During the season, Sugarcreek-Shanesville had beaten Mineral City 38-22.
