Bolivar started in the 3rd frame where they had left off and picked up a 29-22 lead before the Indians were able to gain a 2nd breath.  Field goals by Sophomore guard Junior Kennedy and Senior guard Gene Mishler placed Gnaden back in the ball game as they were only 3 markers to the rear.  The teams exchanged action shots and the Cards added another point on a free throw shot by guard Captain, Junior Lundenberger, to lead 32-28.  Despite the fact that Freshman center Jim Lindon, Gnadenhutten starter, was removed from the contest on fouls at this point in the stanza, Kennedy and Mishler teamed up again to knot the count for the 1st time since early in the 2nd quarter.  Center Chuck Renner moved the Red Birds out in front 34-32 with his 6th and last field goal of the affair as the quarter ended.

Opening the final period, Roche, who had starred throughout the game for the Redskins with his excellent ball handling and defensive play, tied the count once again.  Kennedy added a free throw toss and Junior center Dean Williams, who had replaced Lindon in the 3rd quarter, made a field goal and the Tribe led 37-34.  Mase made a free throw toss for the Cards and forward Don Baad tied the score with a field goal as the game entered the final minute of play.  The crowd of 889 fans grew tense and with only 7 seconds remaining, Mishler hit the hoop with his game-winning action shot.  In a desperate effort to regain the tie, Renner moved in for a quick shot, but the ball fell short as the game ended.

Renner of Bolivar was the outstanding scorer in the battle with 6 field goals and a free throw for 13 points and game honors, while Roche had 11 markers, Lindon and Mishler each had 10 points for the Indians.
