46 - Strasburg Rocks Dundee 45-20 (2-12-46)

The Strasburg Tigers Cheerleaders for 1946.  Senior Norma Lee Mullett - Senior Doris Haswell - Junior Joan Huffman and Junior Lillith Ball.

DOVER - Head Coach Emmet Riley's Strasburg Tigers (1-0) (62-17) (20-0) turned 10 players into the fray with the Dundee Bulldogs (0-1) (19-33) as the Champion Tigers had things their own way the whole contest by destroying the Bulldog defense for a 45-20 victory in chalking up their 1st tournament win 45-20.

Strasburg, with plenty of height, good ball handling and a tough defense, played steady ball throughout and Dundee battled it out all the way, but was simply outclassed.

The Tigers scored steadily to lead 13-4 at the end of the 1st quarter.  Strasburg only managed 9 more points in the 2nd period, but their defense continued to dominate the Bulldogs limiting them to but 4 markers at intermission.  In the 3rd stanza, results were pretty much the same as the 2nd quarter...Strasburg 27-14.  The 4th quarter saw the Tigers hit 13 points ending any Bulldog comeback attempt.

Scoring was evenly divided amoung Strasburg's players with Senior guard Fred Aul and Sophomore forward Tom Haswell collecting 5 field goals apiece for 10 points as Sophomore center Junior (Clarance) Yackey and Senior guard Joe Diebel gathering 7 points each.  Guard Paul Kate scored 7 points to lead Dundee.

NOTE:  INJURY MAY PUT TIGER ACE OUT

It was doubtful today as to whether Bob Hass High School Senior, would be able to see action with the Strasburg Tigers again after being carried from Memorial Hall Tuesday night with an aggravated knee injury.  Haas, a member of the Tiger's Varsity for 2 seasons, was forced to play the role of a Reserve this year as a result of the knee injury suffered in a football game last fall.  He aggravated the injury Tuesday night when jumping to make a crib shot in Strasburg's 45-20 win over Dundee in the opening round of the county Class B tournament.
