46 - 24th Annual Tuscarawas County Class B Basketball Tournament 1946

DOVER - The curtain goes up at Memorial Hall here this evening for the county's 24th Annual Class B Basketball Tournament which will qualify 3 teams for the Sectional Tournament on the same floor on February 28th and March 1st and 2nd.

Four games are on tonight's program starting at 6-7-8-9PM.  The 11 teams in the competition will return on Thursday night and again Saturday night to saw the teams down to semi-finalists in the Championship fight and narrow the field in the Consolation Division.  The winner and runner-up in the championship contest and the winner in the Consolation Division will be qualified for the Sectional meeting.

The Port Washington Purple Riders and the Bolivar Cardinals will lift the lid tonight and may well put on the season's best show.  It will be a case of Port Washington's high-scoring Senior forward Elmer Linard pitted against Bolivar's 6-3 center Chuck Renner and a team that was coming on strong when the League season ended last week.

Semi-finals in the Championship fight will be played Thursday, Februry 21st and the final on Saturday, February 23rd.

The Strasburg Tigers, Tuscarawas Broncos, Bolivar, Sugarcreek-Shanesville Pirates and the Midvale Blue Devils were seeded in the tournament brackets with Midvale, Baltic Eagles, Sugarcreek-Shanesville, Mineral City Tigers and the Gnadenhutten Indians drawing 1st round byes and needing only 2 victories to go directly into the finals.
