46 - Bolivar Sends Mineral City Home 49-39 (2-16-46)








Bolivar Cardinals 1946 Basketball Team.  FRONT:  Ray Murry - Bill Haueter - Lee Lundenberger - Junior Lundenberger (Captain) - Chuck Renner and Paul Peden.  BACK:  Dean Rex (Manager) - George Charton - Chuck Swauger - Dick Mase - Don Baad - Sam Seward (Manager) and Delmar Lewis (Manager).  Head Coach Sherwood Haueter was absent when the photo was taken.





Mineral City Tigers 1946 Basketball Team.  FRONT:  Fred Wigfield - Jim Naus - Rich Wiltshire - Cletus Gintz - Bob Wiltshire - Junior Krieger and Frank Demonte.  MIDDLE:  Clarence Fiddler - Wil Steineck - Bob Lindsay - Dan Lechner - Tom Naus - Warrent Binder and Gene Reidl.  BACK:  Rich Lindsay - Bill Walters - Don Steineck and Don Farnsworth.


DOVER - The Bolivar Cardinals (2-1) (36-29) (13-8) remained in the running for the Consolation Division Title by defeating the Mineral City Tigers (0-2) (9-34) (6-14) 49-39 after the Tigers, led by Dan Lechner, a Freshman forward, gave a fight, but couldn't quite hit a fast enough pace.

Chuck Renner, Cardinal ace center, collected himself 26 points (10 field goals and 6 free throws) leading the Red Birds in 3 quarters of 12-5 at the 1st period, 22-14 at intermission and 41-29 at the end of the 3rd stanza.  After the Cardinals having locked up this game, Mineral City outscored Bolivar 10 to 9 in a losing cause.

Forward Ray Murry of the Cardinals followed up Renner, who picked up game honors, with 13 points, while Lechner was the lone Tiger in double figures.
