Midvale Blue Devils Foward Frank Baumholtz (The Midvale Marvel) scored 25 points (9 field goals and 7 free throws) for game honors in leading his team to victory over the Millersburg Knights 49-26.
DOVER - Tuscarawas County was assured of 2 entries in the Eastern Ohio District Class B Basketball finals at Dennison next week when Midvale, Consolation Champions in the county tournament, eliminated Millersburg from the Sectional meet at Legion Hall last night.
Frank Baumholtz, Midvale's flashy forward, dropped in 25 points, while forward John Hawkins, his running mate, potted 15 points (7 field goals and a free throw), to pace the Midvale Blue Devils (5-1)in their 49-26 victory over the Millersburg Knights. That game would be a rout was revealed in the 1st period when the Blue Devils unleashed an attack which gave them a 17-5 lead at the 1st quarter. They went on to grab a 27-11 margin at halftime, with Hawkins leading the pack. The 3rd period saw Baumholtz lead the scoring as Midvale pulled away to a 42-20 lead. Substitutes took command durng most of the final period.
Forward Fair was the only Millersburg player who could dent the net from action more than once. He scored 4 field goals and 3 free throws for 11 points, while the other forward Musser and guard Mathie each collected 5 points (both had a field goal and 3 free throws).
