32 - Tusky Upsets Gnaden 30-28 (2-26-32)

DOVER - The Tuscarawas Broncos (1-0) (1-9) won their 1st ever county tournament game.  The team entered the tournament in 1923 when the tournament began.  The cagers of Tuscarawas proved to the county last night that their victory over the Gnadenhutten Indians (0-1) (12-8) in the league game during the season was not a fluke by repeating the dose to the tune of 30-28.  It was the most startling upset so far in the current tournament.  The winners overcame a big lead in the 3rd quarter, fought the Indians on even terms in the final chukker and won out when Senior forward Mario Besozzi sank a fielder from the foul circle in the last 40 seconds of play.  Besozzi, by the way, turned in a brilliant performance, playing a great floor game and caging 15 points.  It was he who played the biggest part in wiping out the 19-11 lead Gnaden held midway in the 3rd period.  Besozzi caged 5 goals and 2 free throws in the 2nd half.

Senior Ed Riley, Indians' ace forward, went out on personal fouls in the middle of the 3rd quarter after keeping his team out in front by scoring 13 points.  Gnaden led in the 1st period 4-2, at the half 13-10 and in the 3rd quarter by only 21-20.  With one minute to play Sophomore John Corpman, substitute forward, caged the goal that tied the score at 28-28 and then came Besozzi's winning fielder and a wild demonstration by Tusky's fans.
