32 - Strasburg Blasts Yorkville 26-11 (3-4-32)

DOVER - In the 1st night of the Sectional Tournament, Millersburg beat Lakeville 38-25 and Freeport walked over Walnut Creek 29-18.  But, it was the Strasburg Tigers (4-0) who stole last night's show with a relentless attack on the strong Yorkville Panther defense which eventually gave way and took with it the Jefferson County team's chance of victory.

Both teams opened with a whirlwind exhibition of fast ball and when the 1st period ended the Tigers trailed by a score of 4-1.  In the next period, Sophomore forward John Studer, Strasburg flash, broke loose and piled up 4 action shots, while his running mate, Senior forward Bill Yates, netted another to run their half-time socre to 11.  Meanwhile, they had allowed the Panthers only one point...a foul and ended the 2nd period 11-5.  Each team scored 6 points in the 3rd quarter and they entered the home stretch with Strasburg leading 17-11.  From then on it was all Strasburg.  Late in the period Head Coach Paul Roby was able to pull his 1st string men from the game, yet Yorkville failed to add anything to their count and went out of the game with the same 11 points they had at the end of the 3rd quarter, while the winners took 4 field goals and a foul and picked up a 26-11 victory.

Studer received game honors with 6 field goals for 12 points.  Center Fernihough and guard McKean were high point men for Yorkville with 4 points each.
