40 - Strasburg Gets-By Baltic 46-40 (2-23-40)

Strasburg Tigers #8 Senior Center Fred Yenny, burned the nets for 21 points (6 field goals and 9 free throws) in leading the charge against the Baltic Eagles in picking up a 46-40 victory and receiving game honors.  Yenny is averaging 16.5 points a game in the tournament.

DOVER - The Baltic Eagles (1-1) (15-22), which last week upset the Sugarcreek-Shanesville Pirates 27-23 in the 1st round to enter the semi-finals, proved a tough opponent for the Strasburg Tigers (2-0) (48-9) and it was not until Fred Yenny, expert pivotman, hit his basket eye that the Burgers won the game.  Yenny, who returned to the Strasburg club only several weeks ago following an injury, dropped in 21 points.  Previous high was 16 points netted against the Bolivar Cardinals.

The Eagles let the Tigers take a 4-0 lead in the 1st quarter and then struck back to slip away with a 13-11 advantage at the period end, but Strasburg retaliated by halftime and was leading 21-18.  The Tigers started going away in the 3rd stanza, but the Eagles caught up, tieing the score at 25-all before Strasburg swept into a 32-27 lead at the quarter and from then on they were never headed.  Baltic came within 2 points of tieing the score in the final period, but Yenny pulled the Tigers out by making 8 points and #5 Junior guard Bill Schenk contributed 2 field goals at exciting moments to stem the Eagle tide.

Yenny topped all scorers with 21 points, while #4 Senior forward Harold Lahm led the Baltic attack with 13 points.  Strasburg hit on 10 of 16 free throws, while the Eagles were able to connect on only 12 of 26 chances.  Strasburg lost #4 Senior guard Ed Smith and Sophomore guard Jim Welsch on personals and #11 Junior center Glenn Regula went out for Baltic.
