40 - Port Downs Mineral City 35-32 (2-17-40)









Port Washington Purple Riders Senior Center Henry Linard collars game honors by hitting the nets for 13 points (6 field goals and a free throw) to lead the Purple Riders to a 35-32 win over the Mineral City Tigers.  Linard is averaging 10.5 points a game in the tournament.


DOVER - Unable to hit its stride, the Mineral City Tigers (0-2) (9-24) lost to the Port Washington Purple Riders (1-1) (5-20) 34-32 in the 1st Consolation Tournament game of the year.  The Purple Riders led the entire game with the exception of the tie at halftime.

Port Washington, led by 4th-year Head Coach Walter J. Meade (Hiram College), jumped to a 9-6 lead in the 1st quarter.  In the 2nd quarter it was reversed as the Mineral City Tigers, headed by 2nd-year Head Coach Darwin Davis (Salem College, West Virginia) hit the hoops for 9 points, limiting the Purple Riders to 6 markers ending the quarter tied at the end of the half at 15-15.  After intermission, Port regained the lead by swishing the nets for 13, while the Tigers hit 12 points ending the 3rd quarter with the Purple Riders leading 28-27.  Port Washington maintained their lead and iced the game with 7 more points and holding Mineral City to 5 for the 3-point win.

Linard of Port Washington led all scorers with 13 points, while his teammate Senior forward Lewis Gracik was right behind him with 12 markers.  Mineral City's center Wil Bailey and guard Chester Houze both managed 9 points apiece.
