DOVER - Basketball in ahighly palatable concoction was served up to 1,500 screaming fans at Memorial Hall Saturday night as the Strasburg Tigers of Tuscarawas County and the Berlin Hawks of Holmes County survived the gruelling, heart-breaking Class B Section Tournament and simultaneously acquired the honor of competing in the Eastern District Championship finals at Dennison this weekend.

A fighting Berlin Hawks outfit just managed to slip out of the place position and into first-money with a 28-26 edge over the Baltic desperate Eagles.  It was the 2nd straight 28-26 game for the Eagles who found themselves on the losing end this time around.

The Baltic Eagles (3-2) started like whirlwinds in their fray, swamping Berlin 8-1 in the 1st chukker, but were held to a lone point in the 2nd to trail 14-9 at halftime.  The losers gained a marker during the next period and were headed at 3 quarters 20-15, though they were holding a 20-9 disadvantage at one point.  The losers then put on a belated spurt to come up on the Holmes County boys 26-24 and Senior center Dick Regula, back in the game after resting too long with 3 personals on him, tied up the ball game with an action shot.  Allen "Red" Miller then put Berlin on the Eastern District Tournament floor lists for the 1st time in history as he iced the game with a long ark shot from the field.  Each outfit had 4 free throws out of 11 shots.
