38 - Baltic In Upset of Bolivar 30-24 (2-25-38)

Baltic High School Eagles Senior Forward Harry Regula scored 16 points (7 field goals and 2 free throws) to lead his team to victory over the Bolivar Cardinals 30-24.  He also captured game honors.  (We like him and we'll miss him.  Because of all that he has done.  In the classroom, on the diamond and in the gym.  We're sorry that his high school race is run.)

Baltic High School Eagles Senior Center Dick Regula contributes to the upset of the Bolivar Cardinals with an additional 10 points.  (The time will come in future years.  Some golden day...and rare.  When a mellow voice will strike our ears.  "This is Dick Regula on the air."

DOVER - Pitted against the great height and vaunted attack of the Bolivar Cardinals (1-1) (21-15), the Baltic Eagles (2-0) (14-18) were only considered an outside chance.  But, they came on after being outscored in the 1st period as they presented a closely netted unit and managed to surge to a 6-point lead at the half and then cut down every Cardinals attempt to challenge.  The victory marked the 1st time a Baltic team has ever entered the finals of the county tournament or qualified for a Sectional game that follows.  But it was a well earned victory.  Paced steadily by Seniors Harry and Dick Regula, the Eagles played a steady well balanced game that kept the Cardinal rivals almost completely baffled because they could not counter the height advantage under the baskets.

Bolivar had the lead 7-4 in the opening period, but Baltic drove up with a spurt to go ahead 11-10 in the 2nd period and then led 16-10 at the intermission as the Cardinals were stopped with 3 points.  Baltic gained its lead in the 2nd quarter, held even in the 3rd and then put down Bolivar in the stretch.  Trailing 23-17 when the final period opened the Cardinals came on to within 4 points with the score 25-21 with only 3 minutes left to play.

There Harry Regula, who pulled Baltic through in an overtime period last week, stepped into the breach.  Already the game's high scorer, Regula tossed off a free throw and 2 field goals in the remaining time, while Bolivar collected a foul toss by guard Jack Ross and a basket by forward Glen Lebold.

Harry Regula, the scoring champion, hit the hoops for 16 points and Dick Regula followed that with an additional 10 markers.  Glen Lebold led Bolivar with 8 points (3 field goals and 2 free throws).
