36 - Stone Creek Upends Mineral City 23-14 (2-22-36)









DOVER - The Stone Creek Panthers (2-1) (3-6) rocked the Mineral City Tigers 23-14 in the 3rd Consolation Tournament contest.  The Panthers could not win a single League contest this season and already have 2 tourney wins to their credit.  Their only tournament loss was to the Sugarcreek-Shanesville Pirates 47-17.

The Tigers led 6-3 in the first period of play.  By the half, Head Coach James C Wilson's Panthers had scored 8 points to 4 points for Mineral City and Stone Creek was ahead 11-10.  In the 3rd quarter the Panthers continued to hit the rings for another 9 points, while the Tigers could only score another 3 points when the quarter ended.  The defense of Stone Creek held Mineral City to only 1 point in the final quarter to secure the great comeback vicory for the Panthers. 

Forward Frank Ellwood managed to hit the only double figure column for Stone Creek with 10 points (1 field goal and 8 free throws).  Guard Louis Smitley led Mineral City with a total of 7 points (3 field goals and 1 free throw).
