34 - Strasburg Slams Port 49-9 (2-17-34)

DOVER - Senior John "Johnny" Studer, star Tiger forward and ace scorer of the entire Class B League, ran his 4-year scoring total to something like 936 points Saturday night as he and his Strasburg Tigers (2-0) (27-5) teammates gave tournament fans a sample of what they can do.  The sample was the defeat of the Port Washington Purple Riders (1-1) (3-8) by a decisive 49-9 score.  Studer and the remainder of Strasburg's 1st string lineup which includes Junior forward Bill "Doodle" Haas, Junior center George Denzer, guard Bud Reiger, and Senior Adrian "Fuzz" Miller, lasted slightly less than half a game.  Four year Head Coach Paul M. Roby pulled them out and sent his 2nd stringers into the fray.  But, they too, outscored the Purple Riders.

Studer marked 17 points during his brief stay and his team piled up a 32-3 lead before turning the contest over to the seconds.  Strasburg had led 12-3 at the 1st quarter and the 2nd stringers sent the total to 35-3 by halftime.  Four field goals and 1 free throw were the sum-total of Port's scoring.  Junior forward Russ Glazer turned in 2 of the field goals, while Sophomore center Gene Decker and Senior guard Ed Dichler had 1 field goal each.  For the Tigers, Haas had 6 points, Reiger 7 and Scheror 8...in the upper bracket.
