34 - 12th Annual Tuscarawas County Class B Basketball Tournament







DOVER - Drawings for the 12th Annual Class B Basketball Tournament which will be staged at Legion Hall here on February 16, 17, 23 and 24, will be made at the Senior High School Building at New Philadelphia tomorrow at 10AM, it was announced today by W.E. Laws of Midvale, Tournament Manager.  Coaches, managers and captains of the 11 teams in the League will attend the drawngs.  Three teams will enter the Sectional meeting at Legion Hall later.  Two of the 3 will be the winner and runner-up of the regular county joust and the 3rd will be the winner of the Consolation Tournament added this year for the 1st time.

Twelve teams will take part in the tournament with the 12th being the winner of a series between Winfield, Ragersville and New Cumberland which has not been announced.  Trophies for the winners will be furnished by The Daily Reporter, E. Fienberg and Co., the S. Toomey Co., Walter E. Leiser, Inc. and the Dover branch of the Sanitary Milk Co.  Trophies will go to the winner of the League competition which closes tonight, to the winner and runner-up of the regular tournament and to the winner of the Consolation Tournament.  Medals will also be presented members of the successful tournament team.

The Consolation angle adds 9 games to the regular schedule and finals in both the Consolation and regular divisions which will be held the night of the 24th.  Earl D. Gross, Mayor of New Philadelphia, will officiate all regular tournament games.  A Class B League official will handle the Consolation meetings.
