34 - Strasburg Rocks Tusky 22-13 (2-16-34)

DOVER - Flashing the same well-organized attack that has carried them through 4 Class B League seasons without a single defeat, the Strasburg Tigers (1-0) (26-5) last night beat down the superb defense of the Tuscarawas Broncos (0-1) (1-12) and won their 1st tournament joust 22-13.  The game was easily the feature attraction of the opening session of the tournament.  Playing a zone defense and refusing to be drawn out, the Broncos had the Tigers had put throughout the game; although, the Tigers outscored them in all but the 3rd period.

Strasburg led all the way with the score 6-3 in the 1st period, 12-5 at the half and 14-9 at the end of the 3rd quarter.  In the 4th the Tigers elected to stall which was unquestionably smart basketball, but just as unquestionably unpopular with the fans.  They were roundly booed.  Strasburg missed enough shots to ice the game in the early stanzas despite their difficulty in getting easy shots.

Senior forward scoring ace John "Johnny" Studer of Strasburg was high scorer for the night with 9 points...4 field goals and a free throw.  Junior forward Calvin Knisely led the Broncos with 6 points on 3 field goals.
