34 - Strasburg Considers New Trophy Case With School Attached

This is the 1934 Strasburg High School building in use since 1914.

DOVER - While a friendly lawsuit hangs pending in common pleas court to decide whether Strasburg is to get a new school building, the whole town and county has joined in a debate about the new structure, when...and if...it comes.  The mooted question is whether the building shall be a trophy case with a school building and the appurtenances thereto built-in, or whether it shall just be another building.  The possibility of its being a new CSAS project is also under discussion.

Already overcrowded by a collection picked up through years of basketball superiority, the trophy case in the present building will never hold together for the stuffing it will get as a result of the school's cage team finishing its 4th year undefeated in the Class B League and then copping its 3rd consecutive tournament championship.  For the latter feat the Tigers received a Statuette trophy given by the S. Toomey Co. of Dover.  For winning the League Championship the team received a larger trophy of the same type from the E. Fienberg Co. of Dover and New Philadelphia.  Individual members of the team, 8 of them, received medals presented by Walter E. Leiser, Inc., of Dover.

Presentation of the Fienberg trophy was made between halves of the final game at Legion Hall Saturday night by Superintendant Wilson of Mineral City, President of the County Athletic Assocation.  Captain John Studer of the Tiger team received it.  Strasburg is also defending Class B Champion of the Eastern Ohio District of the State and will be defending that title when it participates in the elimination meeting at Legion Hall this week.  Strasburg school officials and fans started an argument about the new building as they looked over their new collection Saturday night.  The Dundee Bulldogs stepped in and took the runner-up trophy, presented by The Daily Reporter and the Mineral City Tigers took the Consolation prize, a relief placque, presented by the Dover Branch of the Sanitary Milk Company.
