26 - Strasburg Girls Champs After 15-3 Win Over Tuscarawas (2-26-26)

DOVER - Something in the order of a championship has to be kept in Strasburg this basketball season, so after the Strasburg boys had lost out in the semi-finals of the county tournament Saturday afternoon the girl team of the Strasburg village came to the rescue and won the county Class B girls championship by defeating 6 Tuscarawas High School ladies in a fast game on Saturday night.  The game was a preliminary to the Sugarcreek-Shanesville-Bolivar Tuscarawas County Class B Basketball Championship Tournament game.

Strasburg led the Tuscarawas ladies all the way, opening up in the 1st few minutes to a 3-point lead.  They were ahead of their opposition at the end of the 1st half 3-2.  Miss Helen Benfer, flashy forward on the Strasburg squad, tumbled in 5 baskets and one foul for 11 of her team's 15 points.  She was by far the best player on lthe floor.  Florence Affolder, Tusky guard, was taken from the floor by officials after she had been knocked out.  She was delirious when taken to the dressing room.
