27 - Another High School Team Added To Basketball Tournament

DOVER - The entry of New Cumberland High School into the County Class B Basketball Tournament to be held Saturday, February 26, at Dover Legion Hall, has force yet another change in plans for the tournament and will force starting of play Friday evening, February 25th.  Drawings will be held Saturday, February 19, at 2PM at the office of Charles Barthelmeh, county superintendent of schools, at New Philadelphia, at which time it will also be decided where the initial tournament games on February 25, will be played.  The change in plans is the 2nd forced on the committee in charge.  The Eagles of Port Washington High School upset original plans by entering the tournament a week ago.  Now the New Cumberland High School makes entry.  Neither of these teams were in the county Class B league.  The letter sent out Monday by T.G. Syler, Sugarcreek, in charge of the tournament, to heads of county schools follows:

We are again compelled to change our plans for the tournament.  New Cumberland is coming into the tournament, and as the winning team must play 4 games, part of the tournament must be played on Friday evening, February 25th.

All schools entering the tournament will send a representative to a meeting called for Saturday, February 19 at 2PM at the County Superintendent's office.  At this time the drawing will be done and the place decided upon for the Friday evening games.  If a school has no representative at the meeting some one will be designated to draw for that school if the school is entering the tournament.  I am asking all schools to let me know before February 19 whether they intend to enter the tournament.  Unless they do not let us know and do not have a representative at the meeting it will be assumed that they are not entering and we will draw with that understanding.  No school will be permitted to enter the tournament after the drawing.  Before deciding to enter we would like to know if you are willing to share in the losses, should there be any, as well as the profits.  We are hoping that nothing else will come in the way of these arrangements and that we may have the most successful tournament that we have held.
