27 - Bolivar With Easy Win Against Mineral City 23-8 (2-25-26)








SUGARCREEK - The Bolivar Cardinals (1-0) (7-4) defeated the Mineral City Tigers (0-1) (1-5) by 15 points in the opening round of the Tuscarawas County Class B cage tourney held in Community Hall at Sugarcreek on Friday night.  After the Strasburg Tigers-Dundee Bulldogs game the remaining games in the tournament are being played on the Dover American Legion floor today.

Bolivar and Mineral City played first.  Bolivar's victory over Mineral City was not a shock to the fans.  The Bolivar team was conceded victory over the Tigers before the game even started.  Bolivar stepped into the winning column immediately and held an 8-0 lead over their opposition at the end of the initial quarter.  When half-time rolled around Mineral City had scored only 1 field goal, while Bolivar had mounted their total to 12.  The Cardinals kept scoring in the 3rd period and the Tigers caged another field goal and 2 foul shots to boost their total to 6.  Widder, Bolivar scoring ace, was ejected from the game on account of personal fouls shortly after the start of the 3rd period.  Zutavern and Widder led Bolivar with 9 and 8 points.  Senior John Reiger followed up with 6 points to round out the Cardinal scoring.  The Mineral City Tigers were led by Harris and Fetters who scored 3 points each and Ludlam finished their scoring with 2 more points.
