27 - 5th Annual Tuscarawas County Class B Basketball Tournament

DOVER - Eight teams had been entered in the Tuscarawas County Class  B Basketball Tournament to be held at the American Legion Hall on Saturday February 26.  The 8 teams are:

Baltic Eagles
Bolivar Cardinals
Dundee Bulldogs
Gnadenhutten Indians
Mineral City Tigers
Tuscarawas Broncos
Strasburg Tigers
Sugarcreek-Shanesville Pirates

Following is a letter written by T.G. Syler, Sugarcreek, in charge of the Class B County Basketball Tournament at American Legion hall February 26th relative to the rules of the tournament and the method of drawing:

The Port Washington Eagles have applied for admission in the basketball tournament.  While we do not like these eleventh hour applications, Mr. Townsend, the commissioner of athletics advises that we admit them.  This upsets our method of drawing that was decided upon, so we will draw in the usual way.  The drawing will be done at the Legion building the morning of the tournament at 8:30.  The captain of each team will draw unless some one else is designated to do so .  The drawing will be in alphabetic order.

You will please send your eligibility list so that it will be in  my hands before the tournament.  Only 12 players may be on this list.  The eligibility must be certified to by the administrative head of the school.  One hour before the 1st game 8 of these 12 players must be designated as the ones to participate in the tournament.  No substitutions will be permitted after this list is submitted.  Consult your December bulletin.  "The December bulletin has  the following to say about protests:  All protests against teams or individuals must be made in writing by the administrative head of the school and filed with the commissioner on or before February 19th in order that he may have time to investigate the charges.  The protest must be accompanied by evidence.  If a player becomes ineligible after that date, games in which he participates will be thrown out and his team disqualified.  The eleventh-hour and post-season protests are unfair."

You will receive in a few days advertising which I will ask you to place.  You will also receive tickets for your team and coach.  Four games will be played in the morning, 3 in the afternoon and 1 in the evening.  H.L. Weick of Cantonwill referee all the games.  If you would like to have programs of the tournament printed, please send me the names of your players with the numbers they will wear and the name of the coach.  This list of the players will have no bearing on eligibility.  I am trying hard to arrange for a successful tournament.  If you have any suggestions to make I would be glad to have them.

Relying on your cooperation and with best wishes for a successful tournament, I am, yours for clean athletics,

T.G. Syler
Manager
