Stone Creek Panthers Forward Dale Wherley clipped the nets for 12 points (4 field goals and 4 free throws) and gaining game honors leading the Golden Panthers to a 6-point 30-24 win over the Port Washington Purple Riders.  Wherley has 24 points in tournament play and is averaging 8 points per game.

DOVER - The Midvale Blue Devils polishing off a threatening Gnadenhutten Indians tribe and the scrappy Bulldogs of Dundee turning in one of the greatest basketball victories in that school's history by dropping the Strasburg Tigers, the 19th Annual Tuscarawas County Class B Basketball Tournament hit it's climax before a capacity crowd at Memorial Hall last night.  Other positions remain to be settled tonight and tomorrow night to determine who will win the Consolation final and become the 3rd team to enter in the Class B Sectional Tournament here next week.

Midvale, after a slow 3rd period, breezed over the dark horse Gnaden team 37-21, while Head Coach Ken Gartrell's Dundee club pulled the rabbit-out-of-the-hat, and reversing Strasburg 33-29.

The Dundee triumph, one of the greatest this season for the Gartrellmen, places the Bulldogs in the county Championship contest for the 1st time since Glen Jones' quintet copped runner-up honors in 1934.  It also assures the Bulldogs of a place in the Sectional Tournament at Memorial Hall next week.

Midvale, Eastern Ohio District Champions last season, will be defending the county tournament Championship when it plays Dundee tomorrow night.  The other 2 games of the evening saw the Bolivar Cardinals finally hit their stride to eliminate the Baltic Eagles 38-24, while the Stone Creek Golden Panthers sent the Port Washington Purple Riders home 30-24.

The Port Washington Purple Riders (1-2) (6-23) got off to a 10-7 lead over the Stone Creek Golden Panthers (2-1) (7-16) in the 1st period of a Consolation Division game, but it was only a flash because the Golden Panthers piled up 10 points in the 2nd period, while their defense held the Purple Riders to a fingle field goal to cope a 5-point 17-12 lead at halftime.

Stone Creek was still leading 23-18 at the end of the 3rd quarter; although, Port Washington came within 1 point of knotting the count before the Golden Panthers started up again and put the game on ice with a 6-point margin 30-24.

Forward Dale Wherley led Stone Creek with a big 12 points, while his fellow cager, center Gil Mizer, grabbed another 9 markers.  Bob Woodard finally started hitting in the last half for Port Washington and piled up his 10 point effort.
