41 - Midvale Blue Devils State Time-Out

COLUMBUS - A stack of telegrams, carrying best wishes for success helped spur the Midvale Blue Devils (8-0) (20-5) to their 42-37 victory over the highly regarded Waterloo Wonders (26-3) in the opening round of the State Class B Basketball Tournament at Ohio State University Gymnasium last night.

Head Coach Pete Wolfe, youthful mentor of the Midvale cagers, wasn't entirely satisfied with the play of his team and said he expects improvement tonight at the Coliseum where the Blue Devils meet the favored Cridersville Rams.  "They were a bit sluggish last night," Coach Wolfe said, "I think it was because they had too much rest.  They'll be ready today."

Coach Wolfe, who had planned to take his team to Westerville, seat of Otterbein College, his alma mater, made a last minute switch and took the team to the Deshler-Wallick Hotel.  Yesterday the squad toured the State House and State office building.  Today they'll visit Otterbein, touring the campus and attend some of the classes.  No practice was schedule.

Telegrams were sent Coach Wolfe and the team by many well-wishers back in Tuscarawas County.  One of the most prized was from Head Coach Dutch Furbay and his Dennison Railroaders, highly touted combination that Coach Wolfe's team eliminated in a Sectional Tournament game 30-28.  The New Philadelplhia Booster Club, Dennison High School and County Supt. W.E. Laws also sent telegrams.
