37 - Sugarcreek-Shanesville Takes Down Dundee 50-25 (2-19-37)









DOVER - After an uncertain 1st quarter, the Sugarcreek-Shanesville Pirates (1-0) (23-13) swung into a high scoring offensive and doubled the score on a fighting Dundee Bulldogs (0-1) (12-17) team to win their 1st round game by 25 points.

The Bulldogs battled hard in the opening period and when the smoke cleared away the Pirates had only a 13-8 lead.  The 2nd period saw the Sugarcreek-Shanesville offense start clicking and by halftime ran up a 29-10 lead to ice the game.  In the 3rd stanza, the Pirates stopped a Dundee rally to jump far in front, 40-23, as the final period started.  Every Sugarcreek-Shanesville player saw action in the last period.  Guard Don Ridle led the Pirates attack with 17 points (8 field goals and a free throw) securing game honors. Senior forward Cliff Moomaw and center Paul Andreas ringed the hoops for 9 points each (both had 3 field goals and 3 free throws).  Guard Don Ogg claimed 9 points (3 field goals and 3 free throws), while his Bulldogs teammate guard Dick Machan picked up another 8 points (2 field goals and 4 free throws) turning in a good game for both lads.

Haine of Bolivar.  Of the total attendance, the cash customers numbered 637 of which 363 were adults and 274 students.  Teams, Managers, coaches and cheerleaders of all schools are admitted free.
