Although hampered at times by both injury and illiness, Head Coach Paul M. Roby's Strasburg Tigers Basketball Team came through the season with colors flying to win the Tuscarawas County Class B League Championship in a 4-cornered dog fight with the Midvale Blue Devils, Sugarcreek-Shanesville Pirates and the Bolivar Cardinals, all 3 of them tied for 2nd place with 8-2 records. Members of the Strasburg squad are: First Row - Charles Rieger, Lloyd Haas, Ramon Renner, John Paul Miller and Pete Haswell. Second Row - Head Coach Paul M. Roby, Bob Raica, Bob Deibel, Willard Wiegand, Maurice Bayer, Garver Wallick and Sumner Mullet-Senior Student Manager.
DOVER - Drawings for the 15th Annual Tuscarawas County Class B Basketball Tournament, which will be held at Legion Hall on February 19-20-26-27 was to be held at the office of County School Superintendent, W.F. Laws, in New Philadelphia on Saturday, February 6, 1937, it was announced by D.E. Haine, Secretry of the County Athletic Association and P.O. Cochrane of Midvale is President of the group.
The 4 teams finishing at the top of the League Standings at the close of the regular schedule was seeded into the 4 brackets of the draw, and were given positons 1,3,5 and 9, according to Mr. Haine and the remainder of the teams drew into the openings.
The seeding plan was adopted 3 years ago for a 3-year trial and this was the final draw where the seeding process was to be followed unless adopted again for next year.
As in the past several years a Consolation tournament will be run off with the regular tourney and the winner of it will qualify with the winner and runner-up of the regular meeting, for the Sectonal meeting at Legion Hall a week after the county joust.
Referees for the county meeting, either 2 or 3, was to be selected at Saturday's meeting.
