49 - Gnaden Sends Stone Creek Home 49-46 (2-24-49)

Gnadenhutten Indians Senior Forward Jim Lindon led the Braves to a 49-46 triumph over the Stone Creek Golden Panthers by leading his team scoring 17 points.  He now owns a 17.6 points per game average gathering in 53 points in tournament play.

DENNISON - In a close Consolation Division contest, trailing at halftime 25-21, the Gnadenhutten Indians (2-1) (13-10) (43-34)  launched a 3rd quarter rally which sent them into a 40-38 lead going into the last canto of their game with the Stone Creek Golden Panthers (2-2) (13-10) (14-32).  The lead changed hands 7 times in that 3rd stanza.

The game developed into a scoring duel between the Indians' Seniors forward Jim Lindon and center Gene Montague and the Panther's Senior center Verle Buehler and Junior guard Gene McPherson.  Lindon netted 17 points to pace both teams, while Montague meshed 14 for the Indians.  Buehler scored 16 markers and McPherson 13 for the Golden Panthers.

Second-Year Head Coach Ray Blickensderfer of the Tribe became the 2nd coach to be sidelined in the 1949 tournament because of sickness.  Blickensderfer suffered a severely bruised eye in practice early last week and infection developed yesterday.  The Gnaden mentor was not on the bench with his team last night because of the injury.  Assistant Coach Ellis Glasgow handled the duties in Blickensderfer's place.

A Gnadenhutten player, Montague, was nearly knocked unconscious in the last period when he figured in a collision with another player.  Montague; however, climbed to his feet and finished the game.

The Indians during the season knocked off the Golden Panthers twice with scores of 73-39 and 49-46.
