DOVER - The Stone Creek Golden Panthers (3-1) (16-9) (27-41) ran into a cold streak and a band of fiery Mineral City Tigers (0-2) (4-17) (12-51) and the combination almost upset the apple cart, despite the fact that Junior Pitchin' Paul Lindsey and Junior Larry Yost were whistled out on personal fouls with 4 and 5 minutes, respectively, left in the regulation Consolation Division game.  The Tiger duo tossed in 52 points between them and the Tigers of Mineral City cause appeared lost when Lindsey went out with the Golden Panthers ahead 62-60.

The remainder of Head Coach Bob Penrod's battling crew pulled out the stops; however, and carried the fight to the beleaguered Panthers .  The Blue and Gold went ahead 66-60 and Junior Jerry Kirker dropped in a fast-break basket and followed with a free throw shot.  Junior Joel Gordon added a free throw with a minute and a half left and at the one minute mark, Kirker connected for a long push shot to deadlock the score at 66-66.  The Orange and Black regained possession of the ball seconds later, but, Mineral City failed to capitalize on the break as they tried to get the ball in close.  Stone Creek had one shot at the basket and missed and the game went into overtime.

The Golden Panthers won out in the overtime canto with Sophomore Ron Deibel canning 2 field goals and Sophomore Ben Wherley adding a free throw shot, but for a time it seemed as though the fire in the Tigers attack would carry over into a victory.  The Panthers started out on top as expected and Stone Creek, despite inability to hit from the field, took a slight lead at the outset.  Lindsey and Yost carried the Tigers in a 21-20 advantage after a hectic finish to the 1st quarter and then kept Mineral City in contention as the Golden Panthers took a 37-34 half time edge.

Head Coach Leo Gower of the Panthers sent in his 2nd string at the start of the 3rd stanza in an effort to shake off the "freeze" ensnaring Stone Creek and the scheme worked briefly.  The Golden Panthers Reserves jumped to a 41-34 advantage, but, the Tigers plugged along and dropped in 8 straight points to take a 44-43 lead after 5 minutes of the period had elapsed.  Back came the Panther starters who took over briefly on 2 occasions, but Mineral City , despite losing Yost and then Lindsey, battled all the way before bowing out.

Lindsey was the game's top scorer with 32 points, while Yost had 20 for the Tigers.  Deibel, Stone Creek's "All-League" player, led the Golden Panthers with 27 markers, while Senior Bill Jones connected for 18.

Stone Creek cruised over Mineral City during the regular season 73-56 and 90-74.
