DOVER - The Baltic Eagles (4-1) (19-6) (35-49), an upset victim of the Gnadenhutten Indians (2-2) (12-13) (51-46) on the 2nd night of this year's tournament, had the staying power to stick it out this time and came away with their 2nd consecutive Consolation Division Crown.  The Eagles and the Indians treated the overflowing crowd to a slam-bang battle from start to finish with with the Scarlet and Gray, whose shots dropped consistently all the way up to the final flurry, missed 12 consecutive tries at the basket in the last minute and a half of play and went down as the Orange and Black clinched the victory from the free throw line.

The Flyers threatened to make a clean getaway in the 2nd frame as Baltic soared to a 37-28 advantage.  The Tribe was behind through most of the 3rd stanza, when they lost their center, Junior Lloyd Porter, with 3:20 showing on the scoreboard.  The Braves battled back with Junior Glen Hines leading the attack and the scrappy Indians moved into a deadlock 48-48, just before the buzzer ended the 3rd period.

Once again the Eagles went back out ahead, but Gnadenhutten caught fire and swept into the driver's seat 56-53 for a brief time.  The Flyers jumped back ahead and the lead see-sawed until little Sophomore Glen Reidenbach jumped up in the corner and potted a push shot to give Baltic a 63-62 lead at the 2:15 mark.  A short time later, Hines missed a scoring opportunity despite repeated efforts.  Senior Jim Wallace made the score 64-62 with a free throw shot and 6-3 Senior Errol Jacobs tipped in Wallace's missed 2nd attempt to hike the Eagles' lead to 66-62 with a minute and 20 seconds left to play.

Junior George Regula iced the Flyers' verdict with 2 more free throws with 45 seconds remaining in the game.  Baltic lost Junior Jim Uher on personal fouls with little more than 6 minutes left to play in the final canto and Senior Fritz Syler went out with 3 minutes to play.

Jacobs was the Eagles' high-point man with 24 markers with Wallace and Reidenbach each getting 10.  Hines and Junior Chuck Albaugh topped Gnaden's scoring with 20 and 21 points respectively.

During the regular season, Baltic won both games 59-52 and 76-68 and then lost their 1st encounter with Gnaden in this tournament 57-52.
