DOVER - When the Strasburg Tigers and Midvale Blue Devils hook up in the battle for the Championship of the 33rd Annual Tuscarawas County Class B Basketball Tournament at Memorial Hall tonight, the Tigers will be seeking to annex their 14th cage carnival title, while the Blue Devils will be out to chalk up its seventh.

It was back in 1923, the 1st year of the tournament, that the Bengals won its 1st tournament title 52-16 over the Gnadenhutten Indians and the Orange and Black have since piled up 12 other winning years with winning skeins of 2, 3 and 4 years during the process.  Strasburg has been runner-up 3 times and has won the Consolation Division Tournament 5 other years to figure in one of the spots in 21 of the 33 tournaments.

The Midvale Blue Devils' 1st tournament title came in 1931 after finishing as runner-up for 2 consecutive seasons in 1929 and 1930.  The Diablos have since finished as runner-up 6 times and claimed 3 Consolation Division Crowns.  Midvale, who have been improving fast during the regular season, have an overall record of 17 victories and 6 defeats, 2 of which were to the Tigers by scores of 73-53 and 97-93.

The Bengals and Blue Devils have met in the finals of the tournament on 5 previous occasions with Strasburg winning in 1939, 1946, 1948 and 1951, while the Blue And Gold emerged victorious in 1940.

The Baltic Eagles are the defending Consolation Division Champions.  The Eagles kayoed the Port Washington Purple Riders for the title last year and went on to the Sectional Tournament finals before bowing to the Tigers.  The Flyers and the Indians have met 3 times this year with the Eagles winning twice, 59-52 and 76-68 in the regular season, while the Tribe won on the 2nd night of the current tournament 57-52.

Trophies will be presented at tonight's season with a new award added to the list this season.  The "Sportsmanship Award" is to be given to the team which exhibited the best sportsmanship through the season.  The award was started in 1937 and ran through 1941 previously with the Tuscarawas Broncos being the last school to get the honor.  Also to be announced tonight are the Most Valuable Player and best Cheerleading Team.

The Consolation contest is scheduled to get under way at 7:30 with the Championship game following immediately.  Doors to Memorial Hall will be opened at 6:30.
